Create your own version of this effortlessly stylish hat and enjoy a knitting pattern that’s as practical as it is beautiful.
The Södermalm hat is inspired by Stockholm street style: it features a chunky, double-folded rib and a crown that is knitted to stand casually upright. The beanie is worked top-down, starting with increases at the crown, followed by smooth stockinette, and finished with a generous rib.
This beanie is a perfect leftover-yarn project, since with a top-down construction you can decide the rib length yourself—no need to estimate where to begin crown decreases. The hat is knitted holding one strand of DK-weight yarn together with two strands of lace-weight yarn, which gives the surface a lovely, soft halo.
